The family of Donald Edward Segar regrets to announce the peaceful passing of their husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather after a brief illness on February 21 in Inman, SC at the age of 86. He will forever be remembered as an outgoing and friendly man. A resident of Macomb Township, he was born on February 28, 1931 in Detroit. Don was the son of Max Leonard Segar and Berta Oma (Bartholomew) Segar. Don married Barbara Joan Currey, his high school sweetheart, at the Trinity Baptist Church in Imlay City, MI in 1952. An ordained Baptist minister, Don served in various pastoral roles at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, MI; Calvary Baptist Church in Zanesville, OH; and FaithWay Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI. As a source of supplementary income, he also apprenticed as a tool and die maker and worked in various fabrication and management positions at D & K Tool and Die in Bridgeport, MI; Hub City Iron in Aberdeen, SD; Essex Wire in Zanesville, OH; and Omega Plastics in Macomb Township, MI. For hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking and hunting, and he was most proud of his invention of an injected molded broadhead for bow hunting. Don is survived by his wife Barbara Joan; children Karen (James) Boniface of Rochester Hills, MI; Donald (Tricia) Segar of Inman, SC; Kathy (Gene) Orlikowski of Pickens, SC; Joel Segar of Chattanooga, TN; and Kimberly (Fred) Parisek of Macomb, MI; 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and brothers Floyd (Alice) Segar and Clifford Segar. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Segar and his sister Nancy (Robert) Allen. Two memorials are scheduled. A service will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, February 26, at Westgate Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, the church that the Segars attended for years before retiring up north. The family will also host a celebration of Don’s life at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo, MI on March 7, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Light refreshments will be provided as friends and family share their stories and memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Westgate Christian School’s library in Spartanburg, SC, a fitting tribute to Don, who greatly enjoyed good books, and where Joan enjoyed reading to the elementary school children.
