James G. Johnston, age 84, a 14 year resident of the Washington/Romeo area, and previously living in the Algonac, West Bloomfield, Rochester area, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Jim was born May 19, 1931 in Detroit, the son of James S. and Marguerite (Osborne) Johnston. He worked in sales management for the automotive industry for many different companies over the years, retiring after 24 years with the “Terminal Supply Company” of Troy. Jim was well known in the Romeo area as a Romeo Lions Club member. He served his club proud by being its membership chairman, on its Board of Directors, and being in charge of Hearing Aide collections for low income families in need of hearing aides, in connection with the Macomb County Health Department. You could always see Jim at his favorite restaurant, the Times Square in Romeo to eat and socialize with his many friends. He also enjoyed boating, traveling, snow skiing, and in his younger days, was a barrel jumper. Jim served his Country proud during the Korean War as a radio operator for the Air Force. Jim is survived by his 3 children: Annette Martin of IL., Thomas G. (Debbie) of Grosse Pointe Farms, and Timothy (Cathy) of Gladwin, MI. Stepdaughter Amy Evans of California. Also survived by 6 grandchildren along with his 2 special/adopted sons, Brian Venette & Keith Thornton. Jim was preceded by his his two wives, Sheila Baskin Johnston and Sharon Cook Johnston. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Pastor Eric Majeski of Grace Lutheran Fellowship of Romeo officiating.
