Richard E. Parrott, age 90, a lifelong Washington Township resident, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township. Richard was born January 26, 1923 in Shelby Twp., MI., the son of William and Julie (Murthum) Parrott. He married Betty Racz on June 21, 1947 at United Methodist Church, In Shelby Twp., and she preceded Richard in death on April 19, 2002. Richard worked for many years at Transit Mix in Utica/Washington, belonging to its Local # 247, and retired in 1985. He then worked as a maintenance person for the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) for another 11 years before retiring in 1996. Richard was most proud of earning a Purple Heart, Bronze & Silver Star while being in the Army/Air Force during WW II. He earned his medals while fighting in the battle of the Bulge in France. After the war, he was a charter member of the Old Settlers Post # 4659 in Disco. Along with his family, they were longtime member of St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Council # 7018. His hobby include playing softball & baseball for many years. Richard is survived by his daughter Pamela (Gary) Sprouse of Clinton Township, along with 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and his sister Gladys (Glenn) Jessop also of Shelby Twp. He was also preceded in death by his son Dennis on Dec. 30, 2012, grandchildren Joshua Parrott & Alaina Maria Sprouse and siblings: Howard, Floyd, and Donald Parrott, Helen Secord, Marie Bronke, Betty Lagodna, and Isabelle Schwartz. Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 25 at 1 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Fr. David Buersmeyer of St. John & Paul Catholic Church of Washington Twp. Visitation will be 2-8 Sunday with a 6:30 PM rosary and will be followed by a VFW ritual service.
