Billy Lee McCurdy, age 93, a resident of Sterling Heights, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Clinton Township. Billy was born September 22, 1931, in Elwood, Indiana, the son of Floyd Miles and Isabelle (Tucker) McCurdy. Billy grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he met his sweetheart and lifelong soulmate, Ruth Ann Shires. They married in 1953 and shared almost 72 years of marriage.

Billy worked for Ford Motor Company and was transferred by them to Michigan in 1969. Billy and Ruth Ann packed up their brood and continued to enjoy life together there until he retired at age 62, at which time they travelled and moved a bit, settling in Florida. The last couple of years found the McCurdys back in Michigan.

Billy was a proud former Marine and was always wearing something that announced his status. He was a runner of races, and he often looked forward to a birthday that would boost him into the next age group so he’d be the youngest in the group rather than the oldest. Billy was a master Euchre player, though he rarely partnered with anyone other than his Ruthie or his firstborn son. He had a beautiful Irish tenor voice and sang songs around the house, often making up words as he went along. He enjoyed playing games with his kids, including wiffle ball, kickball, and touch football (sometimes “touch” was just a suggestion, though, and his small daughters did not like to hike the ball to him).

Billy is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann, of Sterling Heights, Mike (Nina) McCurdy of Charleston, SC, Tim (Raye Ann) McCurdy of Leesville, SC, Katie (Jeff) Chase of Sterling Heights, MI, Tracy (Giuseppe Lopriore) Aitken of Salisbury, NC, Deenie (Colin Johnson) McCurdy of Atlanta, GA, and Kevin (Kristen) McCurdy of Carmel, IN, as well as 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Billy was predeceased by his daughter, Kelly McCurdy, in 2001.
