Doris Jean Schumacher, age 93, of Romeo, Michigan, passed away on October 17, 2022. Doris was born February 2, 1929, in Minden City, Michigan, the daughter of Dolf and Mary (Stein) Schock. Doris graduated from High School, and went on to obtain her Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from Wayne State University. Doris was a dedicated teacher in Roseville, and taught until she was 71 years old. Doris married Gerald J. Schumacher in February of 1949, and he preceded her in death in 2004.
Doris liked to give back to the community, and was a volunteer at the St. Clement Pantry, and taught catechism for many years. She was also very family-oriented. It was clear and obvious that she was devoted to her children and grandchildren, and they were her number one priority. She always found ways to make every family gathering special, personal, and fun. Doris was proud of her faith, and kept it close to her heart. She enjoyed collecting antiques, and loved jewelry, pearls, silver, and linens. She liked to travel, and had taken trips to many places. Doris was active, and was a fan of bowling, golf, and Zumba. She also played the piano, and loved gardening. Doris was very talented in the kitchen; she was a great cook, and a fantastic baker.
Doris is survived by her children, Mary (Tim) Hernden of Clarkston, Jane Harris of Birmingham, Sally (John) Klatt of Washington Township, Dr Michael Schumacher of Harbor Beach, and Susan (Rick) Krebs of Grand Rapids, and grandchildren Patrick (Jimma) Hernden of Texas, Nicholas (Jennifer) Klatt of Chicago, Ryan (Gergana) Hernden of Waterford, Katie (Jonathan) Rice of Allendale, Sara (Klatt) of Beverly Hills, Evan (Lenny) Schumacher of Holland. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
Mom liked the song “This Little Light of Mine” may her light continue to shine on us and guide us until we meet again.
Thank you to the staff at Orchard Grove Legacy, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
