Douglas Sladen Card

Douglas Card passed away on September 7, 2025. Born July 21, 1948, Doug was a lifelong resident of Romeo. He was the son of Llewellyn and Kathleen Card and younger brother of Stuart Card. Doug will be remembered for his keen intellect, remarkable sense of curiosity, humor and optimistic nature. He recognized even as a child how special it was to grow up in a place like Romeo, a small town between city and country, with elements of all three in one place.

Doug was a talented photographer, and skilled writer. He worked for the Romeo Observer, covering local sporting events and writing special features documenting the history of the Romeo area. His photos won several press association awards.

Always fascinated by science, Doug completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science at Wayne State University. Doug loved imaging technology and became proficient in electron microscopy. He also had a penchant for research, editing and publication lay-out and was employed by the Wayne State Law Library until his retirement.

In addition to his multifaceted work life, Doug served on the Romeo Library Board for several years.

Doug will always be fondly remembered by his family and his many friends for his unique sense of humor, forgiving nature, insatiable curiosity and love of life. Doug lived life on his own terms. Gregarious to the end, Doug truly enjoyed getting to know people from all walks of life. He could always find something of interest to talk about with anyone he met.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025 from 9:30-11:30 am at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo. MI

Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 am, burial immediately following at the Romeo Cemetery.
