Jack D. Bentz, age 91, a lifelong Allenton area resident, passed away on Saturday October 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on April 13, 1931 in Allenton, the son of Max and Jennie (Clydesdale) Bentz. He married Mary E. (Ruhlman) on November 29, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer and she preceded him in death on February 29, 2016. After graduating from Almont High School, Jack started work as a machinist, then joined the Army during the Korean War and spent 2 years, mostly in France specializing in transportation. Upon returning from the War, Jack continued work as a machinist and retired for the Bentz Tool & Machine shop in Detroit in 1987. Jack and his family were lifelong members of St. John Catholic Church in Allenton where he belonged to the ushers club and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Imlay City.
His hobbies included; farming /gardening, woodworking, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, and playing Euchre. What he loved most was being part of his childrens and grandchildrens lives, and capturing memories on video.
Jack is survived by his children: Colleen (Tim) Wike of Dexter, Mi., Chris (Renee) Bentz of Allenton, Carol (Greg) Roth of Dubois, Wy., and Susan (Dave) Rager also of Allenton. Survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and siblings; Tom Bentz and Joan (Mike) Hayden both of Allenton. Also Joseph P. (Joanne) Ruhlman, Gertrude Steele, Seth Griffen, and Patricia Horton.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Mary and son Matthew.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 1-8pm at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo, MI.
Mass of Resurrection will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at St. John Catholic Church of Allenton. Jack will be instate from 9-10 with the mass to follow. Burial will follow at the West Berlin Cemetery in Allenton.
