Joseph R. Bussone

  Joseph Bussone, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and educator, was born on July 7, 1940, in Ishpeming, Michigan. He was the son of David and Angela Bussone, who instilled in him the values of family, faith, and hard work that he carried throughout his life. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his brother Paul Bussone, his sister Susan Coluccio and brother-in-law Ron Coluccio. On August 7, 1965, he married Sharon Roell, beginning a life together that lasted 61 years. Their union was blessed with five children: Mary (Anthony) Bussone-Neam, Katherine (William) Godin, David (Julie) Bussone, Robert (Jennifer) Bussone and AnnMarie (Kurt) Raguse. Joseph’s pride and joy were his 15 grandchildren: Caleb, Ella, Catherine, Therese, Angela (Toby), Monica, Jillian, Brendan, Stephen, Olivia, Maria (Noah), Samuel, Sarah, Kate, and David, who brought immense joy and fulfillment to his life. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Elaine Bussone and his brothers Larry (Mary Jo) Bussone and Bruce (Debbie) Bussone.

Education was a cornerstone of Joseph’s life. After graduating from Ishpeming High School in 1958, he pursued higher education at Northern Michigan University, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. His passion for teaching led him to a fulfilling 33 year career, 30 years with Almont Community Schools, where he taught machine woods, hand woods, and drafting. His dedication to his students left an indelible mark on the community and the many lives he touched. After retirement he worked as an estimator for the Almont Do-It Center and later he started freelancing by drawing house plans.

His hobbies included woodworking, working with 4-H kids, and hunting.

Joseph’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. An active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Allenton, he served on parish council, as a lector, and other acts of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. John the Evangelist Church.

Joe’s life’s work and the family he cherished will remain a testament to his gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Visitation will be held at Henry Malburg Funeral Home (11280 32 Mile Road in Romeo, MI) on Sunday, October 4 from 2-3 pm for family, and 3-7 pm for friends, with a rosary at 6 pm.

Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church (883 Capac Road in Allenton, MI) at 10 am on Monday, October 5, with visitation prior at 9:30 am.
