Margaret Ann (Kemp) Schramm, aged 88, was joined into the love of her Lord Jesus Christ on August 6, 2025. A resident of Romeo, Michigan for 59 years, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose passion for the Lord guided her entire life.
The daughter of Paul and Gertrude Kemp of Pontiac, MI, Margaret was born on December 22, 1936. She graduated from Waterford High School (Class of ’55). Margaret entered Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1956, earning a 3-year certificate in Music and Christian Education in 1959. During her first week there, she met Louis Jay Schramm of Ray Township, Michigan. They quickly created a bond that was consecrated by their marriage on June 20, 1959, and produced a committed union of 66 years.
Margaret was a stay-at-home mom until 1976 when she became a librarian at Romeo District Library, retiring in 1994. She was a dynamic reader for Storytime, provided welcoming and helpful service at the front desk and single-handedly brought RDL into the digital age when she was tasked to transition it from cards to a computer catalog system.
Margaret was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Romeo from 1966 to 1993, Community Wesleyan Church of Washington from 1993 to 2024 and Woodside Bible Church of Romeo from 2024. She was always a diligent servant of God and at 1st Baptist taught Vacation Bible School, children’s church and teacher’s training courses. However, music ministry was one of her richest contributions by playing piano for worship services, singing in the choir and acting as its interim director, while also frequently performing or accompanying for special music. The capstone of her life of Christian service, however, was the women’s bible study she led for 15 years while attending Community Wesleyan.
Margaret was always a voracious reader and believed that she must “create or die.” Music was the focus of her creative drive from when she was a small child, studying classical piano and performing a wide variety of vocal and instrumental Christian music. Her hearing loss, due to Meniere’s Disease, eventually brought her musical pursuits to a close, but she quickly found new outlets in drama and comical skits, ceramics and other handcrafts, while lately becoming a devotee of (coloring apps).
The impact of the life of Margaret Ann Schramm on her family, friends, coworkers and church community was likely greater than she ever knew. She is survived by husband Louis, son Ray (Sally) Schramm, daughter Kay (Randy) Cuthrell and son Jay Schramm; granddaughter Hannah (Clayton) Ford, grandson Corey Cuthrell and great-granddaughter Madelyn Ford; and brother Richard Mills and Sisters Jayne Mills Rigby & Judy Jebian.
