Marie A. Johnston

  Marie Anne Johnston, 80, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, with her husband by her side, surrounded by the love of her family. Marie was born on August 21, 1945, in Norwood, Massachusetts, to Rex and Irene Supernaw and grew up in Rochester, Michigan. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1963. She cherished summers in Charlevoix, Michigan, where she visited her parents and created lasting family memories. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. 

Marie shared a loving marriage of 50 years with her husband, Richard Johnston. They were married on July 26, 1975, and built a life centered on love and family. Richard cared for her devotedly for many years, a reflection of the deep love and commitment they shared. Marie worked as a hairdresser and had a true passion for art. 

She was creative and expressive, with an artist’s spirit and a unique way of seeing the world. She was a member of the Pastel Society of America and entered her art into many art shows, sharing her creativity with others. Her friendships meant a great deal to her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Johnston; her children, Mike Voccia (Wendy Voccia) and Anne Johnston (Scott Messina); her grandchildren, Carrissa Papajesk (Steve Papajesk) and Michelle Voccia (Nick Zemsta); her great-granddaughter, Lydia Papajesk; and her sister, Martha Meyer. She is also survived by her niece, Kara Meyer, and nephew, James Meyer. Marie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, held in God’s loving embrace.

Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Clement Catholic Church Romeo (343 South Main Street Romeo, MI 48065). Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 3 to 8 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home.
