Mark Stephen Hiel

Mark “Markie” S. Hiel, age 69, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Corewell Health Hospital (Hospice Unit), Troy, Michigan. Mark was born April 25, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, the second oldest son of the late Frank and Angela (Gonter) Hiel.

After graduating from East Detroit High School, Mark joined the Marines and proudly served our country for 4 years. Afterwards, Mark worked for Curtis Metal Finishing Company as a tool & die machine operator in Sterling Heights until his deteriorating health forced him to retire.

Mark was an outgoing guy who loved to BBQ for his friends, and enjoyed watching old movies from the 50’s / 60’s era, but mostly just being a loving brother and uncle. Mark also had a soft spot for his “Furry Kids”, dog Mushsu and cat Savanah.

Mark was preceded in death by his older brother Michael and is survived by his siblings: Nancy (Ron) Weyersberg of Washington Twp., and Noreen (Robert) James of Fort Gratiot; Nieces and nephews Jacklin (Brad) Kasper, Angela (Daiki) Watanabe, Alyssa (Steven) Droege, and Tiffane James; Great nephews James, Benjamin, William, Brady, Austin & Koby.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 10-11AM followed by a Service at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home (11280 32 Mile Road, Romeo Michigan 48065). Military honors will be rendered at the graveside at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in Mark’s name would be appreciated.
