Reginald Dennis DiMattia, age 83, passed away on August 29, 2024, at his home in Shelby Township, Michigan. Reg was born July 17, 1941, in Bellaire, Ohio, to the parents of Roland and Barbara Dimattia. After spending his childhood in Powhatan Point, Ohio, Reg and his family relocated to Hazel Park, Michigan, where he remained throughout his teenage years. After graduating from Hazel Park High School, Reg's sense of duty and patriotism led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps at 18. He was an honored Veteran who served our country for over four years. Reg worked as Plant Manager of Aero Grinding in Roseville, Michigan, a position he held alongside his brother, Roland Dimattia, the owner.
While working at Aero Grinding, Reginald met his wife, Debbie, who worked in shipping and receiving. Reg and Debbie wed in January 1997. They spent the next 27 years creating an amazing life for their two children and five grandchildren. Reg and Debbie traveled the United States together, living in Arizona and Nevada before returning home to Michigan.
After retiring from Aero Grinding, Reginald remained busy and followed his passion for academics, literature, and learning. His dedication to learning was inspiring; at 75, he returned to school to obtain his teaching degree. He spent four years as an elementary school teacher, working alongside his wife, Debbie, who taught only a few doors down from his classroom.
Reginald had a passion for reading and always had a book in his hand and a USMC hat on his head. Reg's love for his family was unwavering, a testament to his character. He was the backbone and foundation of his family, a man larger than life and more significant than any of the characters in his book collection. The sacrifices he made for them will live on through his memory and those around him.
Reginald is survived by his wife, Debbie; his son, Chad; his daughter, Arielle; and five grandchildren, Aubry, Oliver, Noah, Damian, and Skyla; and his brothers, Ronald and Renaldo Dimattia.
