Roberta K. Warren (“Birdie”), age 90, a resident of the Almont area since 1968, passed away on
Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Jackson County Medical Care facility in Jackson,
Michigan.
Roberta was born March 12, 1932, in Brighton, Michigan, the daughter of Jarvis L. and Esther (Babcock) Gage. After graduating from Michigan State Normal College, now Eastern Michigan University, with a degree in elementary education, Roberta worked for 7 years in the Mt. Clemens School System. After taking time off to raise her young family and upon moving to Almont, she started working at Almont Elementary in 1968 and remained there until her retirement in 1994.
A talented musician, Roberta lent her singing voice to the First Congregational Church and the Mount Clemens Civic Chorus, as well as many family events. After retirement, Roberta enjoyed spending time with her family, her former students, and the friends she made over the years. She was active in the Happy Retired School Teachers (HARTS), the Almont Literary Guild, and the DKG Teaching Sorority. For the last 7 years, Roberta was able to return to her beloved elementary school, residing at The Bells Independent Living facility built within the former Almont Elementary building.
Roberta is survived by her 3 children: Karen Knight of Concord, Michigan, Keith (Patricia) Warren of Wyoming, Michigan, and Barbara (Keith) Eash of Hudson, Michigan. Grandchildren include Sarah Gage; Rachel Connors; James, Emily, Anna, and Andrew Pettit; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Phillip Gage, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her son, David, and two sisters, Carolyn Vanderslice and Barbara Zander.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 11 AM at the First
Congregational Church (201 E. St. Clair in Almont), with visitation from 10-11 AM. Donations may be made to the 4 County Imagination Library Fund at 231 E. St Clair, Almont, Michigan 48003. Local arrangements by the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo, Michigan.
