Ronald Lloyd La Porte, born August 28, 1940, in Plattsburgh, New York, longtime resident of Romeo, Michigan, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, scholar, educator, critical thinker, computer nut, audiophile, and father-son-basketball-game legend, died peacefully in his sleep July 6, 2025. He was 84.

Class of 1957 Valedictorian of Plattsburgh High School, Graduate of Williams College, and Wayne State University, he taught mathematics at Fraser High School and Macomb Community College, and was also chief negotiator for the teacher’s union for many years. He challenged and inspired countless young minds in and out of the classroom.

Ron was the son of Lloyd Vincent and Jennie Delphine La Porte (née Rock). He leaves his wife of sixty years, Eileen Mary (née Eagan), who he met while both were teaching high school in Champlain, New York; a brother, Andrew and his wife Tina; three sons: David and his wife Lisa, Michael and his wife Laura, and Thomas and his wife Maggie Lee; grandchildren Adam, Kelly and her husband John Gaffney, Matthew, Benjamin, Margot, Hannah, Noah, and Leah; and two great-grandchildren, Kaleigh and Maeve Gaffney.

Visitation will take place Friday, July 11, 2025, at St. Clement of Rome, in Romeo, Michigan at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity in Ron’s name.
