Roy Carl Linden Profile Photo

Roy Carl Linden, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted Christian, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. Born on May 6, 1952, Roy embodied the spirit of a true gentle giant throughout his life, grounded by his unwavering relationship with the Lord.

Life and Legacy

A proud 100% Swede standing 6 feet 5 inches tall, Roy was often described as a towering figure with the warmest heart, always making people smile. His Christian faith provided the stable foundation that allowed him to maintain his humility, patience, and strong work ethic throughout his entire life with his family and friends. He was truly a man of his word.

In his younger days, Roy was a sailor, and his lifelong love for the water remained a source of peace and joy. This passion for the open air continued through his cherished family tradition of camping, where countless memories were made.

Roy enjoyed serving as a Boy Scout volunteer for his son Gunnar’s troop, creating memories and acting as a helpful, steady presence for many fellow scouts as they grew.

He was an avid woodworker and a constant home remodeler—a true handyman who could accomplish any task placed in front of him.

Professional Career

Roy applied his intellect and skill as a dedicated heavy machinery engineer. His career included working on complex and impactful projects for major organizations, including NASA, Caterpillar, and John Deere.

Faith and Service

Through his faith, Roy was empowered to devote many long hours of service to his community, family, and friends. He committed himself to unrecognized volunteer work for The Salvation Army. Alongside his wife, he assisted in leading a Salvation Army Corps in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a fixture in the communities of Chicago and Terre Haute, offering his time and transportation, particularly during the kettle season. Roy’s natural ability to connect with people were evident as he drove the kettle van, lending an ear and patience to listen to the diverse stories of the many bell ringers he encountered.

Family

Roy’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sue Linden. He was the proud son of the late Carl and Betty Linden.

No matter the time or the task, Roy would drop whatever he was doing to help a family member, friend, or neighbor in need. His joyful willingness to lend a hand defined his relationship with those he loved.

Roy is deeply missed by his wife Sue, his children: his daughter, Claire Cole, and her husband, Caleb, along with their son, Asher, and one expected grandchild; and his son, Gunnar Linden.

He is also survived by his siblings: his sister, Ruth Moore, and her husband, Rich; and his brother, Don Linden, and his wife, Suzanne; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
