Sylvia Janet Medley

Sylvia Janet Medley, age 84, of Romeo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Sylvia was best known as “Medley’s Greenhouses” on the Royal Oak Market. She was a cherished fixture in the community and recognized for her warm smile, hardworking spirit and her legendary produce and flowers. Sylvia grew up with a deep appreciation for the land. She devoted much of her life to her love of truck farming – a passion that kept her hands in the soil and her heart in tune with the rhythms of nature. Whether it was her beautiful flowers, sweet corn, tomatoes or her famously tender green beans, Sylvia poured love and care into everything that she grew.

She is survived by her children Julie (Robin) Visnick, Jack Medley and Jason Medley, her grandchildren Maddie and Ryder Medley and her siblings Frank (Dee) Vanpoelvoorde, Judy Miles, Dave (Camille) Vanpoelvoorde and Gary Vanpoelvoorde. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as countless friends and customers who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elza Vanpoelvoorde and her husband Fred Medley.

The viewing will be held at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home Monday, August 4, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for immediate family, and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM for other family and friends. The service will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Allenton, MI from 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM for family, and then 12:15 PM until the service begins at 1:00 PM.

The market won’t be that same without her, but Sylvia’s spirit will live on in every harvest and every smiling face that remembers the joy she brought to the Royal Oak Market, her family and friends.
