Thomas Arthur Govaere, age 80, a 31 year resident of Washington, Michigan, passed away on June 28, 2025 at home. He was born on February 17, 1945 in Mt. Clemens, MI, the son of George Govaere and Eleanor (Joye) Smith. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Deanna (Lendon) Govaere, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John and Debi (Lendon) Murtagh, and Ron Lendon and Anne Trombley.
Throughout his career, Tom worked primarily as a building inspector. He was a true handyman, always ready to tackle any home project, and took pride in his gardening/lawn maintenance skills. He also enjoyed hunting small game, belonging to a hunt club for several years. Tom had many Brittany dogs over the years to assist him, including the surviving hunter/buddy/pet, Larry. A classic car enthusiast, Tom’s 1965 Comet Cyclone was his pride and joy. He enjoyed working on it and loved attending car shows and just talking to other car lovers about the car. Tom also loved sports, and played on softball leagues most of his adult life, “retiring” from softball at the ripe old age of 72.
Tom and Dee also traveled, including trips to Mexico, Alaska, Costa Rica, Galapagos Islands, Yellowstone and small ship cruises along the Columbia River and Puget Sound.
Tom’s most enduring trait was his sense of friendship. He had many friends and always liked to keep in touch. He will certainly be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 10-12pm at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo, MI.
