Virginia M. Braeckevelt, age 85, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Orchard Grove Nursing facility in Bruce Township, Michigan. Virginia was born February 5, 1935 in Detroit, the daughter of Victor and Mary (Delmotte) DeWitte. She married Edmund H. Braeckevelt in 1957 at Immaculate Conception Church in Anchorville. Edmund preceded her in death on February 27, 2008. Virginia grew up on the family farm in Anchorville and attended school there. She was a vegetable farmer her whole life and loved to raise her vegetables and go to the farmers markets to sell her produce. (especially the Armada Flea Market since 1967), She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved to grow and take care of her flowers, and enjoyed being around her many family & friends. Along with her family, they were long time members of St Clement Catholic Church in Romeo. Virginia is survived by her children Rose Mary (Fred) Goike of Shelby Twp., and Gerard (Shannon) Braeckevelt of Romeo. Grandchildren include Scott (Iulia) Goike, Alisha (Jim) Holtgreven, Gerard Goike and Veronica, Donald, & Andrea Braeckevelt. Also survived by her siblings: Gerald (Fran) DeWitte, Donald DeWitte, Nancy (Johnny) Freidhoff, Marianne (David) Naeyaert and her Sister-in -law Marie DeWitte. She was preceded in death by brother Victor DeWitte and sister-in-law Mary DeWitte. Visitation will be on Monday from 1-8 PM at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo Michigan. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 10 AM at St Clement Catholic Church of Romeo (343 S. Main, Romeo MI 48065) with burial to follow at the Bruce-Armada Cemetery in Bruce Township, Michigan Due to Covid-19, We are asking all visitors to wear masks and practice social distancing measures.
